2010 - Day 178

I did a whole lot of nothing after spending all day Friday and Saturday going places nonstop. I saw this whole display of "Oh, the Places You'll Go!" and I thought it was great because it reminded me that my mom bought me for my Graduation.

2010 - Day 177

Unfortunately today was it for the United States in the World Cup. However it stop us from enjoying watching the game at a bar. On our way to Atlantic Avenue we ran into this amazing window display at the liquor store down the street.

2010 - Day 176

Marc and Angela are in town visiting this weekend. I know Angela from teaching and the two of them lived here for 5 years, but have recently relocated to Des Moines. We went to La Palapa for an authentic Mexican City meal with a margarita for dinner.

2010 - Day 175

Karen and I hadn't seen each other for awhile so we meet up to have sangria at La Zarza, my new favorite tapas place in the East Village. We celebrated Karen getting a promotion at work. Then we went to another place and played Guess Who and Connect Four.

2010 - Day 174

After kickball today, Akeli and I went up to 108th and Amsterdam to have a beer with Sara. One of the owners was a Wisconsin alum and I had a great chat about Madison with one of the bartenders. It is a small world sometimes.

2010 - Day 173

Breakfast of champions! Edlyne was craving Magnolia's cupcakes and wanted to walk to Rockefeller Center yesterday to get them. I vetoed that because I am not going to be a tourist on a Monday night with someone who has lived here. However, I suggested that we get iced coffee and mini cupcakes for breakfast this morning and it was amazing. Besides Crumbs is better than Magnolias anyway.

2010 - Day 172

In a flashback to three years ago I met up with Kristine, Katie and Edlyne for a little reunion happy hour at one of our favorite happy hour locations. Angela will be in New York on Friday as well, so it is a whole week of reunions. Angela is on the phone in this picture, so she was basically there as well. Edlyne sent me a text "Let's just meet at that margarita place." I thought that was cryptic for about a minute until I realized exactly where she meant. Wonderful margaritas and happy hour until 7 PM. Back in the day, we couldn't wait until it was 4 PM and happy hour began. Being at a bar at 3:30 PM, that is a thing of the past. I'm so glad that I had a chance to work with these wonderful people.

2010 - Day 171

It was a SUPER hot day in New York, but it was also the 7th Avenue Street Fair, so I thought I might as well get a lemonade and some kettle corn which I walked to my friend's apartment. Which strolling also I noticed a whole table of the super brite bracelets that all the kids are going crazy over. So much so that they have been banned from many schools. They remind me of slap bracelets or pogs, I have a soft spot for fads, they are so much fun.

2010 - Day 170

Summer has arrived and this weekend kicked off with a bunch of birthday celebrations. I made my way down to Brooklyn twice today. First I went to the Brooklyn Brewery this afternoon to have a beer, cupcake/icecream cone and play some Phase Ten to celebrate Kevin's birthday. Then I went to a new dance club in Gowanus. All this circled around working a wedding on the Upper East Side at 3:30 PM. I got a lot of my book read today, but had a great time.

2010 - Day 169

Rebecca and I had been planning on going to the Guggenheim for a photography exhibit for weeks and we thought it was open until 8 PM on Fridays. Turns out we were wrong . . . So instead we walked over to 3rd Avenue to check out a restaurant/bar above 86th Street. We went to Uptown Lounge and Restaurant on 89th and 3rd. They had a great list of martinis for $6. Rebecca chose the Lemon Drop, which made me happy.

2010 - Day 168

There is a really great program called English-In-Action that pairs native speakers with people working on their conversational English and gets them together to practice. They meet here every Thursday during the day throughout the year. This week was their last session for the year, so they brought me some flowers as a thank you. I thought this was pretty nice.

2010 - Day 167

This is pretty much the cheesiest picture every, but I kinda love it. I joined a kickball team and it is pretty amazing. I'm absolutely awful at the actual kickball part of it. However the post game beer drinking and interacting with strangers, I am a pro at doing. I can't wait until next Wednesday!

2010 - Day 166

So this is a stupid picture. Partly because it isn't of anything. The rational behind it though was that Akeli wanted me to get some raspberry lemonade to make a summer cocktail. That wasn't in the cards so we ended up with some pomegranate/blueberry juice that we mixed with some lemonade. All this while singing Rock Band songs and watching the Bachelorette. What a nice Tuesday.

2010 - Day 165

Jay and Amanda partook in the huge bbq fest in Madison Square Park this weekend, so neither of them where up for a big Monday dinner. So instead I made an Asian Chicken Salad spread which was delicious. Then I got some mozzarella and tomato as our luxury item.

2010 - Day 164

Here is a picture of Boyce and Emma watching Germany kick Australia's butt from our bar stools. It was rather entertaining actually because the bartender was Australian, he even went to school with one of the people on the team. I think that is the awesome thing about the World Cup because unlike all the other sports I like, this one actually encompasses the whole world. I think the bartender created a few Aussie fans. Too bad they were crushed by the Germans. I still don't completely understand this whole group level play, but I don't think there is any coming back for the Aussies. I guess we'll see.

June 12, 2010

2010 - Day 163
I really needed a lazy weekend, and so I committed myself to not spending money and hanging out. I spent the majority of my day watching the World Cup from the comfort of my couch. This picture is actually from Sunday when I asked some friends if they wanted to go and watch Germany and Australia play while drinking German beer. My knowledge from doing nothing Saturday came in handy.

2010 - Day 162

Today is the Grammar School Street Fair, which is always one of the kid's favorites. This game was pretty fantastic, if you got a ball into one of the jars you won a gold fish. It reminded me of a carnival game we played in Elementary School. My sister and I won gold fish that ended up living for four and five year respectively. In fact, they even ate the algae cleaning fish that our neighbor gave us to help keep the tank clean.

June 10, 2010

2010 - Day 161

I feel like the World Cup is something that I can really get behind. It is going to take a lot to overcome my hatred of there not always being a winner. However, now that I read the wikipedia article and understand the whole tournament aspect better, I might be able to overcome the ties. Also Zakumi the mascot is pretty adorable.

June 9, 2010

2010 - Day 160

Our second kick ball game got rained out. However, Jean and Andrew were still up to do something so the three of us went to Croxley's for 10 cent wings. Andrew loves wings and cheap things, so he was basically in heaven. This is actually a weird picture, but it is cute.

2010 - Day 159
We had to reschedule Monday dinner to Tuesday for this week. It was a pretty healthy soup and salad night and both dishes turned out excellent. We had a chicken spinach salad with red onion and strawberry as well as a cauliflower soup with homemade croutons. My sister said that at the restaurant where she works they make homemade croutons out of jalapeno corn bread. That is almost worth a trip to Madison right now.

June 7, 2010

2010 - Day 158
Summer is here and that means there are all kinds of ways to spend your weekday nights. Tonight, Jen found a listing for Paella Parade in New York Magazine. We ended up going and having a fantastic time. We got to try about 8 different kinds of paella and it was unlimited wine as well. The crowd favorite was Tapeo 29, which was a paella that had an amazing sweet sausage on the top. It was also held at the Water Taxi beach, so it will be a hard event to beat.

June 6, 2010

2010 - Day 157

Here is a picture of today's brunch. I had a really good goat cheese and spinach omelet with some breakfast potatoes. It took me two attempts to eat it but it was a delicious brunch.

June 5, 2010

2010 - Day 156

Yesterday was a complete marathon day. This picture is sorta lame, but it is of Amanda and Joan as we are sitting at brunch. We went to the Sunburnt Calf for a nice Aussie style brunch with unlimited mimosas. The day continued on for another 12 hours or so after this, but apparently this was the only picture that I took.

June 4, 2010

2010 - Day 155

I went on a Missouri sponsored Scavenger Hunt on the Upper East Side with my friend Karen. One of the things that we had to do was have all three members of our team drink out of the same glass. So here we are, another checked off the list.

June 3, 2010

2010 - Day 154

After going nonstop for the last couple of days, I decided to take the night off from everything. Watch Dear John and catch up on the Bachelorette.

This picture is from Monday when Scott, Dana and I went to the Vietnam War Memorial which is something that I had been wanting to see.

June 2, 2010

2010 - Day 153

It was an unusual book club this month because everyone including myself had about 20 things going on and therefore we were a little lame. Jen, Monica and I went to Brother Jimmy's for food after our discussion about What is the What. I had a po boy sandwich, which was pretty good.

June 1, 2010

2010 - Day 152

Dana talked me into going to the Today Show this morning before work. I watch the Today Show almost every morning and it was a lot of fun to see them in person.
