Day 91 - March 31, 2008

In New York, being a material person is literally a pain in the neck. I have been meaning to go to Target for the last week to pick up necessities such as Drano, shampoo, a new broom (my current broom came from the street) and a can for recycling. Anyway, I was impressed with myself that I was able to get everything I needed into my new recycling bin and still able to take the train home. So there you go, the picture of the day!

Day 90 - March 30, 2008

It was another glorious Sunday, and I had a wonderful brunch with Angela and Katie. However, I've already taken a few pictures at brunch, so this is the picture of the day instead. This is how the houses look on Sterling Place leading up to my building. I really love the row houses which are almost all Brownstones. I love the tree lined streets even though these trees look more like twigs in March. Also, I think that it is immensely enjoyable to live so close to your neighbors. I know a lot of people that would wholeheartedly disagree with that, but for my part I think it is one of the best parts of living in a city.

Day 89 - March 29, 2008

Last night the Badgers' basketball season came to an unfortunate end. Due in large part to the Davidson player, Curry, who is pictured here and whom I believe scored about 31 points last night. I'd be much more distraught if this was football season, but I will admit that I did watch much of last night's game, and even yelled at my tv a little bit. Once a Badger always one. Also for those of you counting, football season is only 5 months away. I've been told that it might be a little premature to be counting!

Day 88 - March 28, 2008

No idea why this is underlined, but oh well. On the news today they were complaining about the new complex going up in the Meadowlands. It is a shopping complex/ sporting area and it is suppose to be really catchy. But instead it is turning out to look extremely gaudy and awful it literally looks like a bunch of shipping containers stacked onto of one another. The best part too is that it is called Xanadu. Which as I now know from being a little more of a movie buff is the name of the complex in Citizen Kane. I found this interesting, especially because of the back story about Xanadu in New Jersey.

Day 87 - March 27, 2008

Well since it is Thursday, I guess I should stop talking about the weekend. But, as my mom said New York gets about 300 of the other days of this blog so why not give a couple extra days to Wisconsin.

This is Nicky, my best friend from High School, with her finance, Pete. The funny thing about this picture is that I made them stand in front of a plant, because as my mom has always told me it is really important to have a good background. However, as Pete pointed out, when you stand in front of a plant you really can not see it at all. Fortunately, I got to see Pete and Nicky twice because we went out for dinner at Pizza Man on Saturday night. Which ironically is known in Milwaukee for its wine list and seafood.

Day 86 - March 26, 2008

Kumi and I went to a free screening of the new movie Young At Heart tonight. I thought that it looked pretty precious from the previews. But it was even more that I could have hoped for it to be. The movie was really inspirational. It was about a group of about 25 people all between the ages of 70 and 92 who get together and learn music of all genres. Then they memorize the songs and add their own special flare and preform in concerts mostly in New Hampshire, but throughout the world as well. The documentary follows them for about three months while the prepare and perform a show. I had the privilege of spending Christmas with my Grandparents in their retirement community in Southern Texas. This film left me with a similar feeling to that trip. It is so nice to be able to listen to and learn from the people who have done it all before me. It really makes life seem like it is so much more worth it, when you see people who've been doing it with such grace for so long.

March 25, 2008

Day 85 - March 25, 2008

So apparently I start every post with so, but I don't appear to be able to stop it. SO, I am having a really great week here so far, but I just have too many great pictures from this weekend, so I'm gonna keep putting those up. Mom wanted to take our Easter pictures out in the snow, so this is what they look like. It is pretty hard to believe that there was this much snow in March, but there it is! It is dine in Brooklyn week, so I had a really nice dinner with Katie and now I'm ready to get a good nights sleep. Happy Tuesday!

March 24, 2008

Day 84 - March 24, 2008

Did you know that your wing span from fingertip to fingertip is suppose to be exactly the same as your height from head to toe? Well, I'm sure that you did because everyone that I've told about it does. However, I had never before measured myself to find out if it were the case. Well, Nicki and I are normal, but that is not the case for everyone. Chels for example is 5'10" and her arms are only 5'4" and Andrew as pictured here is 6'4" and his arms are 6'11" so he can touch the ceiling and the floor in our basement at the same time. Apparently this whole arm length issue is pretty frequently discussed, when I told Lindsay about it she said that she has short arms too and her family calls her T-Rex.

March 23, 2008

Day 83 - March 23, 2008

Mom made us go outside and take pictures in the snow for Easter, but she said that there wasn't a good enough one of me in the snow. So I got a snowball to pose for a picture, but we decided to do an action shoot instead. Dad's reaction is pretty priceless.

March 22, 2008

Day 82 - March 22, 2008

Lindsay is my really great friend from Wisconsin. She is living in Milwaukee right now after getting home from doing the Peace Corps. We went out on Saturday night and had a really great time. This place was called Elliot's Bistro and they have $4 martinis which were absolutely delicious!

March 21, 2008

Day 81 - March 21, 2008
Leave it to Wisconsin to give the feeling of the dead of winter on the second day of Spring. I snowed over a foot on Friday and we were literally unable of going anywhere. I went out to take a picture of Dad and right as he finished the plow came by and covered the end of the driveway again. Brother!

March 20, 2008

Day 80 - March 20, 2008

Today at my weekly lunch with Kumi a little kid next to us got really excited and said, "Guess what?" When his caregiver responded he said, "It is the first day of Spring." Well that is worth getting excited about I agree. You know something else worth getting excited about, I am in Wisconsin for the weekend, which is fabulous, and my mom had this wonderful red velvet cupcake display waiting when I got home.

March 19, 2008

Day 79 - March 19, 2008

Kumi took this picture at the restaurant that we went to on Monday. Out of context it looks a lot more like a wall in someones house than a wall in a restaurant, but it did really work with the decor. Since I ended up having to go there twice this week also because I went to pick up stuff we left behind as well.

I am watching a really amazing movie right now called You Can Count On Me. Definitely qualifies to get moved to the top of your queue!

March 18, 2008

Day 78 - March 18, 2008

This is a picture of the bag pipers walking in the parade yesterday. Today, unfortunately was neither as warm or as much fun as yesterday. I was really impressed by how many people were at the St. Patrick's Day parade. It was on a Monday afternoon and there was an estimated 2 million people watching it along the route. It sure made walking around the Upper East Side much more enjoyable than usual.

March 17, 2008

Day 77 - March 17, 2008

Today was my birthday. So Angela, Kumi, Amanda, Jay and Jeet came with me to Dos Caminos. It was delicious and a great way to spend a Monday birthday. The best part of my meal was this amazing corn on the cob.

March 16, 2008

Day 76 - March 16, 2008

Katie and I met up for some great brunch and mimosas today. It was pretty delicious as always and I think mimosas are probably the best drink ever invented. This picture was taken by Adam, and I'll have to make sure that he makes it on this blog before the year is done.

Also today, I went to Palm Sunday Services, watched a little bit of the St. Patrick's Day Brooklyn parade (aka some bands and quite a few men in kilts), and am currently watching my Badgers beat Illinois in basketball. Obviously I do not follow basketball even remotely as much as I do football. But I will always cheer for the Badgers! They are the best. Go Bo Ryan, don't know why we are still rated 10th, stupid Purdue!
I guess I'm following it a little.

March 15, 2008

Day 75 - March 15, 2008

Kumi bought these really funny shamrock glasses for Jeet and I. With my birthday being St. Patrick's Day, I have basically owned just about everything imaginable in shamrock, and these shamrock glasses were really fun.

March 14, 2008

Day 74 - March 14, 2008

I haven't been doing a good job
posting pictures this weekend, even though I've been taking them.

This is the picture from Friday, which is a view into my new office. This is a pretty awful picture, but it is exciting to have a desk of my own and there will be better pictures to come.

March 13, 2008

Day 73 - March 13, 2008
Gov. Spitzer, need I say more. It is sad that this whole scandal is pretty stupid. But interestingly enough it means that New York will now have a legally blind governor. Apparently he can see a little out of one eye, but I still find that pretty interesting.

March 12, 2008

Day 72 - March 12, 2008
I work 2 blocks from the MET, which is arguably the most gorgeous museum in New York. However, when I finally got around to walking past it today, while gossiping on the phone, I realized that it is not very easy to take a picture of. I do think that in sepia it looks rather distinguished however. That Jasper Jones exhibit sounds like something worth checking out though. I love his work in the MOMA.

March 11, 2008

Day 71 - March 11, 2008

So tonight I worked late, but it really made me smile that when I got home at 7 pm the sun was still just beginning to set! Also I love this arch at Grand Army Plaza which is honoring the men of New York who died in the Civil War. When you live in the North you just don't have much appreciation for the Civil War, and it is a nice memorial.

March 10, 2008

Day 70 - March 10, 2008
Well, this is a Friday picture, but it was pretty classic so I wanted to share it. When it rains more than a little in New York, it is a big problem, because our drains are not good at all. One of the million reasons that I hate rain.

Clearly you were going to get wet going into the subway with a few inches of water blocking the way. However, I love that Kristine was still trying so hard to avoid it.

Today, fortunately it was sunny and still light out for over an hour when I got out of work. Nice.

March 9, 2008

Day 69 - March 9, 2008
So Kumi and some of her friends from High School were also out last night. So I met up with them and had a drink. There were some pretty funny pictures, but I thought this one was the best. We got some fries at Pom Frites and got blown away by the freezing winds, but overall it was a nice night.

March 8, 2008

Day 68 - March 8, 2008
Tonight, Rohin invited me to go out with him and his friends from grad school for dinner. We went to Chinatown for some food and then Little Italy for dessert.

This picture pretty much captures how people were feeling about getting their picture taken in little Italy.

March 7, 2008

Day 67 - March 7, 2008

So last year I went out with a bunch of my friends for my birthday and we couldn't find anywhere to go, because being that it is Saint Patrick's Day and the NCAA tournament is happening and a ton of college students are here on their Spring Break. So I decided that I was going to invite my teacher friends to come out with me for my birthday this weekend. Which, I'll admit is a little ridiculous, because my birthday is still over a week away. But we went to Asian Pub which is one of our favorite places, amazing Pina Coladas. We came to the decision that all of us should get to celebrate our birthdays for a whole month. Of the 8 or us there last night none of us had birthdays in the same month, but we are still accepting applications for the remaining 4 months.

March 6, 2008

Day 66 - March 6, 2008

This is my sister, Chelsea's facebook picture this week. Her pictures are always amazing, she is so photogenic. I thought this one is particularly nice though. It obviously is in London and I would guess it is right before Chels and Nick got to observe the changing of the guard. I haven't seen that yet, so maybe I will when I get to London to visit my parents.

March 5, 2008

Day 65 - March 5, 2008

I saw this today and just had to take a picture. Oh Capitan Morgan. This reminded me of a really funny story that my sister told me once. However, because she always accuses me of having a really big mouth, I'm not going to share it hear. I'm sure that you can use your imagination to come up with a much better story anyway. Happy hump day!

March 4, 2008

Day 64 - March 4, 2008

So today is a really sad day! Obviously, you can tell why. I'm really going to miss Brett Favre! I haven't followed football long enough to have one of my favorite players retire. But, that day has come. I honestly thought I was going to cry about it, but I will survive. Hopefully, the Pack will still be great next season!

March 3, 2008

Day 63 - March 3, 2008

So today was really pretty warm and so I thought that I would show a beautiful view of it. This actually isn't really all that beautiful, but that statue of liberty is in this picture. Let's play Where is Waldo with it, can you see it?

March 2, 2008

Day 62 - March 2, 2008

So I always looking for great new places to eat in lower Manhattan. Tonight Kumi and I met up at Le Petit Bistro. It was a really cute French place on 14th Street and 8th Avenue. We had a nice bottle of wine and some delicious food. I had some great shrimp with rice and veggies and an avocado salad.

March 1, 2008

Day 61 - March 1, 2008

March is the best month of the year, and has been forever, because it is my birthday month. Anyway, a lot of people complain about city life because they miss being outdoorsy. I have to say that is not something that I care about. In fact, I'm sure that I spend much more time outdoors when I live in a city than when I don't because I am constantly outside walking around. Today was no exception. This is just a little view of Prospect Park, which I love walking around and make a point to do nearly every Saturday.

February 29, 2008

Day 60 - February 29, 2008

Happy Leap Day! Now obviously since I am not the biggest fan of February, this is not one of my favorite days of the year. But when you are paying as much money as I am for rent it kinda seems like you are getting your money's worth a little more. Anyway, I went over to my friend Kumi's house to have a nice night with her and some of the other ten billion Northwestern people who I know and love in the city.

Anyway, the original plan was to go bowling, but when we finally trudged through the snow to get there the line was out the door, so instead we grabbed a couple more six packs and headed back to the comfort of Kumi's apartment. It was at this point that I realized I had yet to take a picture of the day, so whatever the story behind Jay hugging Kumi and us all cracking up was, I can't say. He was probably just grateful that she brought him another beer from the fridge!
