Day 242 - August 31, 2008
Robin has helped me make the most of my fire escape in the couple of days she has been here. She was a little unsure of it at first, but now she is right at home! It is a nice to have some extra space in my tiny apartment!

Day 241 - August 30, 2008
Robin and I had to grad the Bull by its horns on her first day in New York City. I love that there are a bunch of other people in this picture! We walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and saw Downtown New York. Then we went up to the West Side and had tapas for dinner. Delicious!

Day 239 - August 28, 2008
I went to a Mexican Restaurant with Katie tonight after she worked all day long on her classroom. At the end of our dinner I got out my camera to take a picture and Katie sighed and said oh again. I told her actually she wasn't in this one. This was the art work that was on the wall in the garden of the restaurant and with the lights at the top it turned out kinda cool.

Day 238 - August 27, 2008
Well, yesterday was a Wednesday, and yet this is what I ended up taking a picture of. Clearly, it was not the typical Project Runway and early to bed. Angela said that she thought this picture was great because it was all elbows. Funny. Just trying to make the most of the last few minutes of summer, can't believe that this weekend is Labor Day.

Last night, I went for a walk in the park with Jen, which was wonderful, because I hadn't seen here in a few weeks. It is becoming fall, yea! and so it was already getting dark as I was headed back to my house. I took this picture of the sunset, which I thought was amazing. While, I was taking the picture a guy who was running, and therefore running in place next to me on the curb looked over and said, "Pretty beautiful, huh." Obviously, I agreed!

Day 236 - August 25, 2008
Well unfortunately, I was not invited to the Democratic National Convention, not that I deserve it, because I have not done nearly enough to act on my love of Obama. I do have to say though, I think I adore Michelle Obama, just as much as her husband. During the primary, when my friend Lindsay, who has been strong democrat much longer than I have said that she was much more of a Hillary fan, I did a Wikipedia search on Michelle to help prove to Lindsay that the Obamas were way better than the Clintons. I don't know that she ever completely bought that, but I do adore both Michelle and Barack and I love to hear everything they have to say. I think that they really listen to what other people are saying and respond to it. Also, say what you may about racism in the country, I recognize every day that being white is to my advantage and to go through every day lacking that advantage and still remain so hopeful and optimistic is really remarkable. I agree with him on a lot of the important political issues too, but I think right now at least it is about who Obama and McCain are as people, just as much as who they are as politicians, and I wholeheartedly believe Obama wins on this front.

Day 235 - August 24, 2008
This picture reminds me of the famous dot painting, with all the great people in the park. I love Central Park and really can't get enough of it. I like Prospect Park almost as much, but it seems to be filled with a few more babies! Yeah Sunday, college football starts next week fall is upon us!

Rohin invited me to a dinner party with all of his grad school friends on Saturday night. They were all really interesting people and I had so much fun. There was even blue grass music and amazing food, but I didn't take any pictures of that. Instead, you get to see a walk sign upside down. Oops. Rohin and I thought it was funny though.

Day 234 - August 22, 2008
Marc's little sister, Lora has been living in New York for the last six months or so, but she is headed down to Florida instead. So as is the tradition for all occasions in this city, we meet up at a bar for a going away party. This is Lora, Marc and Brendan pretending that they want to be in a picture, nice!

Day 233 - August 21, 2008
So on this Thursday night, I literally did nothing. I read my book for the hour it takes to make a baked potato and then I went to bed. So instead of that I thought I'd show one more picture I took of the fireworks on Wednesday night. It was pretty nuts! I have no idea why they were set off, and there was a lot more smoke than normal fireworks, so I'm pretty sure it was an illegal display. In fact, there were even firefighters blocking off the road next to the park. Anyway, we went out on the fire escape to watch them and I thought this picture was pretty cool.

Day 231 - August 19, 2008
Its the most wonderful time of the year . . . I am in love with football. I don't know how it became an addiction, I blame my addictive personality, because I am obsessed. Anyway, I have been playing Fantasy Football for the last four years, and it has only increased the intensity of how much I love football. To really explain how much I love it let me tell you, my proudest accomplishment last fall was that I was talking about my love of football with some bartenders in the West Village and they said that I should put my money were my mouth is and enter their football pool. Well, for the record, I won $200 and when I went back to get my money they even sang, "You are the Champion." It was pretty great! So long story short this is the Fantasy Football magazine I bought to make some last minute preparations for draft day. I can't believe Eli is on the cover, I guess the Minnesota game from last year was completely forgotten.

Day 229 - August 17, 2008
I realized as Wendy was leaving that we hadn't taken any pictures together. So here you go, one of us sitting in my apartment watching the Olympics before she left. It was nice to catch up with her this weekend. I have to call the cable company and get Internet, so that I don't always have to post weekend pictures on Monday. I think I have some more motivation seeing as how fantasy football starts tomorrow. That's right, fall is almost here!!

Day 228 - August 16, 2008
I realized by talking to my sisters that one of the sights I had been skipping on my tour of New York was Central Park. So I made sure that Wendy got to see the park while she was here. It is a lot more convenient to go, now that I only work about a block away from it. This is the fountain that I'm sure has some great name, but the reason that I love it is because it is in so many movies. I'll admit that I am pretty easy to please.

Day 227 - August 15, 2008
My friend, Wendy, from High School was visiting New York this weekend. This is a picture of her on Friday with Heath Ledger. I have lived in New York long enough to despise Time Square. But I will admit that I can see the appeal if you don't have to walk through it to get where you are going.

Alright, now here is an actually good picture of the Empire State Building! This is taken from 31st street right underneath the building. Much better than my vain attempts from last week.

Day 225 - August 12, 2008
Since Chelsea commented on my blog, that I didn't say anything about her birthday, even though I clearly didn't forget since I sent all of her gifts way before her birthday, I thought I would respond. Here she is with Jamie on her 21st birthday. I love that this is a picture of Chelsea in a bar, awesome! Anyway, I hope Chels had an amazing birthday, even though I'm sure it was not nearly as great as her last one that she spent her in New York with me.

Day 224 - August 11, 2008
I am an Olympics Junky, and it is for moments like this that I am. The men's swimming team won the 4 by 100 relay, even though the French suppose to win and were leading most of the time. I've stayed up late to watch swimming all week long. I'm gonna be pretty sad when it is over.

Day 222 - August 9, 2008
I swear that this was really cool, because the sidewalk was really sparkly and looked awesome. The picture doesn't really show it though, so oh well. I walked by the next morning and discovered that it was glitter that was all over the sidewalk. Clearly, I had an exciting weekend! To be honest I spent the majority of Saturday watching the Olympics. I even went to the gym and continued watching the Olympics. I don't know why, but I really love them. Our family always got pretty into it growing up and I still really enjoy it. All the human interest stories really get me too. Like, the woman gymnast who is 33 and joined the team so that she could move to Germany because her son had leukemia and there wasn't anyone who would treat him in Russia. I mean come on, where do they find these people. Amazing.

Day 221 - August 8, 2008
This one is kinda cool, because it is under the Brooklyn Bridge. I think this one is really good. At least you can actually see the Empire State Building in it! It looks so tiny and far away. This is taken from the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn Bridge right by Old Fulton Street.

August 5, 2008
So I promised Edlyne that I would meet her for her final time at Grimaldi's while living in New York! It was packed for a Monday, but I guess that is what August will do to you, nobody running on a real schedule, except me apparently! Anyway, Edlyne was the first person I ever went to the Brooklyn side of of the Brooklyn bridge with about two years ago so it was nice to go again. It was really cute hanging out with her sister and all of her friends as well.
August 4, 2008
Here is one more picture from Edlyne's party on Saturday. I love how the walls of her apartment are all such bright amazing colors. This is Marc and Katie benefiting from Edlyne's never ending hospitality.
August 3, 2008
Day 216 - August 3, 2008
Edlyne is someone who I taught with at East New York Family Academy. She is headed back to LA to teach next fall. So she threw a picnic on Saturday. We were suppose to meet at the park, but it ended up getting moved to her apartment. So this is on the roof of her place after it cleared off. We had been eating red velvet cake and a bit of a cake fight broke out. It was pretty funny. This was the end result.

Day 215 - August 2, 2008
Megan, Robin, Germaine and Alice all stopped by my apartment on their way back to Indy. I was making cookies for a picnic at Edlyne's house. So they got to have a couple of cookies and look at pictures of things I've done over the last couple of years. It was fun to discuss how bad the food is in Spain with Megan (with the exception of paella), talk to Germaine about why she really should go to Portugal and compare being in London with Alice. Before they left, we went off to go get some beer for Scott and ended up getting caught in the rain. Its always a little more than you bargained for when you come to visit me.

Day 214 - August 1, 2008
This is Robin and Megan who were here with their moms the last couple of days. They are some of our family friends from when we lived in Indiana. I don't think I'd seen either of them more than once or twice since we moved away from Indiana a decade ago. So it was really great to catch up with them and see what great people they had become. We went out to eat on restaurant row at Becco, a really great Italian place and then we went for a walk down by the Hudson River.
