Day 120 - April 29, 2008
Elle gave me this new tumbler when I went to see her at the beginning of this month. I really love it and think that it might possibly be the best gift ever. It certainly saves me money, since she gives me coffee as well, and more than that I just love it. It is a perfect thing to take a picture of on a rainy Tuesday!

Day 119 - April 28, 2008

So my favorite part of the Today Show is when Matt Lauer does his Where in the World is Matt Lauer segments. This is the week for it too. He went to Buenos Aires first, which is super exciting. I'm dying to go to South America, and my dad says that Buenos Aires is amazing.

Day 118 - April 27, 2008
Yea film festival!! Well, Kumi's best friend, Alexandra, was visiting from Boston this weekend. So, Xan and Abby came with us to our Sunday film. We saw Mi Vida Dentro, a documentary about a Mexican woman, who while living in Austin, Texas as an illegal immigrant worked as a babysitter. One day a child in her care died, due to chocking on paper towels. The movie covered the trial, in which Rosa is accused of murdering the child who was in her care at the time. It is a fascinating portrayal of the American Judicial system and one of the many ways in which it is broken. After the movie Kumi and I walked around and had a great dinner at 7A. Overall, it was a great day, even though the movie was a bit of a downer!

Day 117 - April 26, 2008
So I had originally planned on trying to go to the NFL Draft this weekend. However, Mike could not come through with any VIP passes to get in and we were far too lazy to go and wait from 6 AM - 3PM when the draft actually began. The number one pick this year was Jake Long out of Michigan. It would be nice to go number one, but I sure wouldn't want to be a Dolphin coming off of last year. The Pack took a quarterback, Brian Brohm from Louisville. I don't think that any quarterback will be loved in Green Bay for quite some time, but it is still nice to have someone waiting in the wings.

Day 116 - April 25, 2008

I went to two Tribeca film festival movies this weekend. On Friday, I went to a movie called Eden. It was an Irish film that was about a couple whose marriage is falling apart. After the film they had a question and answer session with some of the primary people from the film. From left to right this is Producer: David Collins, Actress: Eileen Walsh, and Director: Declan Recks. I am really a film junkie, so I find it incredibly exciting to hear people talk about their craft. Also on the way in Rohin and I saw people going into the theater through the red carpet entrance. We saw Amanda and Michelle the red headed twins from America's Next Top Model going into the theater. Haha.

Day 115 - April 24, 2008

To be honest today, was not a very good day at all. The internet isn't working at work or at home for two completely different reasons and as I sit here at the tea lounge I am trying a little too hard to find a reason to be upbeat. I have been feeling a little lonely in the big city. However, as I sit her in this cafe, of the twenty people here only two of them are together. I think that this Georgia O'Keeffe quote sums it up pretty well though, "One can't paint New York as it is, but rather as it is felt." The city does wear on me, but for the most part it feels pretty good. As my mother advises, it is much better to find a reason to smile than to find one to be upset, and that is advice that should certainly be taken.

Day 114 - April 23, 2008

Last night, I meet up with some of the people from 375 Park to celebrate Mike's new job at Abercrombie and Finch. Needless to say, we may not be seeing him in a suit again for quite some time. We went to a bar called Johny Utah's and they have a mechanical bull there. Both Mike and Charles took a turn riding the bull after a little bit of prodding. Neither of them has much of a career as a bull rider however.

Day 113 - April 22, 2008

I have been suffering from technical difficulties and laziness the last couple of days and so I am getting a little behind on my blog posts, but I am still taking pictures. This one in my humble opinion shows that my skills have somewhat improved since I began this blog as well. I have already taken a picture or two of the median running down Park Avenue to show the Christmas Trees and snow. This is what it looks like in the Spring. I love flowers, especially ones that other people take care of. The idea of taking the middle of a street and turning it into a garden like this is really interesting and I think that this is a great representation of how so many people fall in love with New York.

April 21, 2008

Day 112 - April 21, 2008

I have been a little obsessed with Jane Green for quite some time. I love the whimsical Chick Lit stuff that she writes, and it is so easy to get through, that it is pure entertainment. Ever since I read Babyville, I've been hooked. Anyway, it started out as a kinda comedic goal that I wanted to meet her. However, now that I live in New York, it seems like it will be something that is at indeed possible. Especially because she publishes a book a year and always has an accompanying book tour. I randomly check her appearance schedule to see when she is going to be in town. Tonight she is going to be here for an actual show, and so I am going to try to get in and check it out. The name of the show is Afterbirth and as Elle pointed out, that is a pretty ridiculous and gross name for a show, but regardless, I'll keep you posted if I get in.

April 20, 2008

Day 111- April 20, 2008

Truth be told this is what I took a picture of yesterday, but this is not my picture, I'll have to post mine later. I actually lost my Internet connection last night, so this is a picture someone else took instead. Anyway, this is the church that I've been attending regularly for a little over a year. Saint John, Matthew, Emmanuel. I have meet a lot of incredible people there and really enjoy being a member of the community.

April 19, 2008

Day 110 - April 19, 2008

Although the Pope did drive around New York quite a bit this weekend, I did not in fact end up standing around waiting to see him. I do however, find the Pope Mobile to be incredibly entertaining, so I thought that I would still include a picture of it here. This picture even shows the Pope getting out of the Pope Mobile and walking into a large crowd, which seems to be defeating the entire purpose of the Pope Mobile in the first place.

April 18, 2008

Day 109 - April 18, 2008

Fridays were meant for Happy Hour and anyone who disagrees is wrong! Seriously, I think that winding down after a long week is something that everyone benefits from, and happy hour is the perfect medium for it! So Katie, was a waitress in an all night diner through grad school, so she was convinced that she is the best beer pourer ever. This being the case, when Adam's beer came in the wrong glass it was clearly necessary that it get poured into the correct one. I'm so glad it is the weekend, and a beautiful one at that!

April 17, 2008

Day 108 - April 17, 2008

I've taken a picture of the Brooklyn Museum once before. Now it is spring though and I couldn't resist how fabulous and inviting it looked walking past today. The fountain was running on the other side, but I had to choose between the flowers and the water fountain and the sun ruined my picture of the fountain.

April 16, 2008

Day 107 - April 16, 2008

This is Jim Sciutto and he is a senior correspondent in foreign affairs for ABC News. He came today to speak to the Grammar School students about his experiences in Iraq, Myanmar and Zimbabwe. I was going to take a picture of him in real life, but since I was working and trying to seem professional, I did not. Instead I found this picture of him on Google. Anyway, his stories were incredibly interesting and the questions which the kids asked were even more remarkable. Anyway, it was a neat opportunity to hear someone who has become a public figure come back to their grade school and share their experiences.

April 15, 2008

Day 106 - April 15, 2008
My friend, Elle, has a certain affinity for gates. Going into a new building for the first time she'll always pause and point out interesting gates. I think this is a rather admirable quality. Instead of being so rushed to open gates and rush through them all the time, sometimes it is nice to step back and take in where you are and where you are going. So when I decided to get off on a subway stop a little further from home than normal, I noticed this really cool gate shaped like vines with leaves embedded in it, and I thought that it was worth pausing to take a look at.

April 14, 2008

Day 105 - April 14, 2008

Funny story, I went up to visit Kumi in her new studio apartment, which is at 141st Street. I was actually really surprised by how adorable the neighborhood is. Her street is on top of a hill that sits right next to City College. We ordered a feast of Japanese food and watched a movie. Then as I was walking out the door, I realized I had not yet taken my picture of the day. So I thought I should take a picture of the sign that says 141st. This however is a picture of a street light that looks like the sun, and very little else. Use your imagination. Just think of it as abstract art, you can find whatever you want to find in the darkness.

April 13, 2008

Day 104 - April 13, 2008

I think that people who have gardens in the city are really incredible. Growing up my dad put a lot of work into his vegetable garden, but it was a big space where he could actually grow things. This morning I saw people hauling bags of dirt and trying to plant things. This house was the only one so far that I found to be successful at actually getting things to grow this early.

April 12, 2008

Day 103 - April 12, 2008

Today was another beautiful spring day, which I really enjoyed especially since I talked to my grandparents and they said it was still snowing in Iowa. This picture, however is still one from DC. We went to the Botanical Gardens and they had the whole alphabet represented and each of letter gave information about orchids. I thought the O was the neatest one because it formed an archway that you could see the little "stream" and all the other flowers through.

April 11, 2008

Day 102 - April 11, 2008

Kumi and Amanda have found apartments a little deeper into Harlem. Both of them are going to be living around 145th, which is a long way for a Brooklyn girl like me, but now that I work on the Upper East Side it isn't too big a commitment from there. So this Friday, I made it to Amanda's for weekend two of housewarming. Amanda's roommate has a dog, Scrambles, who is pretty cute. I made Will be in the picture with Scrambles, because he is the only one I haven't put up on my blog before. It took finding the dog twice to get this picture too, this is becoming hard work!

April 10, 2008

Day 101 - April 10, 2008

Spring is in the air, everywhere I look around. It was a very nice day in New York City and I was extremely grateful for this. I went to prospect park with Jen for a walk and there were tons of people there including a bunch of little kids playing baseball. Earlier today I was walking out of work and three boys were riding there bikes with their shirts off. I mean, it was only 70 degrees today maybe a little warmer, but still. I suppose it is all relative.

April 9, 2008

Day 100 - April 9, 2008

Believe it or not it is the 100th day of the year
2008! Well, I wanted to do something exciting to represent the fact that I've been keeping up with my picture a day and my cousin recommended that I take a picture of myself. So here you go, kinda nuts, but this will work. Happy 100th Day!

April 8, 2008

Day 99 - April 8, 2008

One of the great things that we did this weekend was walking through all the different Smithsonians. This is in the garden outside the Smithsonian castle which was the first place we took pictures with the cherry blossoms. I love the reflection on the tunnel.

April 7, 2008

Day 98 - April 7, 2008

This is my very favorite cherry blossom picture from this weekend. First of all it is absolutely gorgeous but secondary to that is how much I love Capitol buildings. Therefore, this picture makes me extraordinarily happy.

April 6, 2008

Day 97 - April 6, 2008

After going to the National Cathedral on this rainy Sunday morning, Elle and I went on a beautiful hike through DC. I got to see Dupont Circle, Georgetown's campus, Georgetown the neighborhood and we toped it off with the National Portrait Museum. We also had an amazing brunch at the Tombs.

This may not be the best demonstration of what we did today, but amongst the row houses there was this really fun barbeque mural, and I couldn't resist being a part of it. I love summertime picnics which are no longer in the distant future, hooray!

April 5, 2008

Day 96 - April 5, 2008

The cherry blossom trees in DC are rightfully a time honored tradition, because they are beautiful and amazing. I took a lot of incredible pictures, so rest assure that there will be much more to come. I choose this one however, because it took us three tries of having someone take a picture of us and the cherry blossoms for us to get a shot which actually included both us and the trees. Well, I guess third time is a charm, because this is a pretty neat picture!

April 4, 2008

Day 95 - April 4, 2008

For those of you keeping tabs, I did in fact take this picture on Friday, but I have been in Washington DC and was therefore unable to post pictures until tonight, so here we go.

Elle lives with 3 people and 2 dogs. These are the dogs, Aries and Maggie. I have to say, I rarely interact with dogs, especially now that our family dog died a year ago. So although these are pretty big dogs in an apartment who did wake me up once or twice, it was still nice to have them around.

April 3, 2008

Day 94 - April 3, 2008

This pretty much sums up my afternoon. So my sisters sent me a package for my birthday. However, I was unable to get it because I have a job and am not sitting around my apartment waiting to sign for packages. So instead I left work today at exactly 5 PM, but I missed a train by a second and had to wait a few minutes and then the L I was on had a door that wouldn't close, so I didn't get to the UPS office until 6:02 PM and it closes at 6. But wait, the security guy said that if I stayed until 7:30 PM I could get my package. So after killing time in the most industrial part of Brooklyn were there is literally nothing to do, it turned out that the security guy was mistaken and after all that I did not get my package. AHHHH! So close, yet unachievable.

April 2, 2008

Day 93 - April 2, 2008

Tonight, I went to an incredible lecture about debunking the theory used by some SS officers after the Holocaust saying, "I was just following orders." It was a really amazing lecture and just the intellectual stimulation I needed. I really, wanted to take a picture of the lecture in some way, but it was never appropriate. So instead this is a picture of Borough Hall which is right next to the subway stop that I took home. It is in Brooklyn Heights in Downtown Brooklyn, this picture doesn't capture how beautiful I find this area to be, but I tried!

April 1, 2008

Day 92 - April 1, 2008

Tonight I was actually extremely productive. My friend, Rohin, decided to come over to eat some enchiladas that I made. It was great motivation to get some stuff done. So, I did laundry and cleaned my apartment and even had a great conversation with a friend in Minneapolis. It was an extremely productive Tuesday. This picture is of my makeshift drying rack, nice.
