Day 151 - May 30, 2008

On my way home from work, I stopped at Old Navy and got some flip flops yesterday. So on my way home from there I decided to turn down a different street and walk home from there. It was actually voted best street by the NYPD which I thought was funny. I really like Prospect Heights. I think that the regular brownstones are much better, but these two painted ones were very nice on a nice sunny evening!

Day 150 - May 29, 2008

This week has gone by really fast! I love when a short week actually feels short. Anyway, this is a picture of my sister's college roommate, Elsa and us at the dinner in Waverly. I am even sporting my Wartburg shirt, which I got as a Christmas present and is really comfortable!

May 28, 2008

Day 149 - May 28, 2008

I wanted to take a picture of Dad and Chelsea with a W at Wartburg, and I thought that these gates were pretty cool. Chelsea did not agree and thought that it was stupid to be blocking a gate that clearly says do not block. She was still willing to humor me at least though, that is what family is best at.

May 27, 2008

Day 148 - May 27, 2008

On the way back to Wisconsin on Sunday we had to drive through some pretty severe storms. I took this picture right after we passed a couple of downed power lines. It is rather ominous looking isn't it. I also love this picture because there isn't really anything in it. A lot of kids in the city would have no idea how to picture a space like this with no buildings any where.

May 26, 2008

Day 147 - May 26, 2008

Last night, we got delayed leaving Maynard, because of weather. It hasn't been that big a deal in New York, but around here there was huge snow storms until the end of March and now it has been a tornado disaster area. The actual driving home part was stressful. However, this picture of my amazing Uncle Dave pretending to get blown away by a tornado is pretty funny.

May 25, 2008

Day 146 - May 25, 2008

One of the main reasons for coming back to the Midwest this weekend was getting to see my Grandma Holtz. Grandma is 81 and has recently moved into the nursing home. We had a nice time visiting, having lunch and playing cards with her. We went on Saturday with Chelsea and then on Sunday Jeff and Heather came down to spend the day as well, which was really nice.

May 24, 2008

Day 145 - May 24, 2008

At Wartburg, my sister, Chelsea's college, they just finished renovating their schools gym and recreational center called "the W." The only thing that they kept from when my dad was at Wartburg was the original gym floor. So here he is showing it off!

May 23, 2008

Day 144 - May 23, 2008

I flew home for the weekend to go and see my grandparents. I actually had a really amazing trip home. I met some awesome people having a beer and then I had a great seat mate and we talked for the entire hour on the runway and the whole flight home. We even got yelled at, yikes! Anyway, the best part was getting picked up by Nicki and her boyfriend Jeremy. They even made a big deal about seeing me and meet my new best friend from the plane! I'm excited for a nice memorial day weekend, I'll keep you posted!

May 22, 2008

Day 143 - May 22, 2008

Today was Janelle's last day in New York visiting. It is getting a little harder for me to take pictures in New York, because everything looks more and more routine to me every day. Monday though, I took Janelle around downtown and across the Brooklyn Bridge and this view will never get old to me! I LOVE the view of the Brooklyn Bridge from the South Street Seaport. It is just so amazing. Before the end of the year I'll have to take the same picture from this angle on the Brooklyn side as well.

May 21, 2008

Day 142 - May 21, 2008
Ok I'm not going to lie, I am not a baseball fan. However, if I were into baseball I think I would commit some time into becoming a Yankees fan. Janelle, Kumi and I went to a game yesterday and it was a lot of fun. We were really high up, but right off of the third base line, so the seats were still pretty good. I am enough of a sports fan to show some loyalty to the home team, I wore my Yankees hat and blue and gray sweater, obviously. Also I did a little research off of someone else's newspaper on the train yesterday morning and apparently the Yankees are 10 games behind Boston and last in the division, yikes! At least they won the game I was at 8-0. I think that I'm good luck for the Yankees, they've won 3 out of the 4 games I've been to!

May 20, 2008

Day 141 - May 20, 2008

So Janelle gets to take all of the tourist pictures because this is her first trip to the city! This is one in the Financial District and it is really funny to me for whatever reason.

May 19, 2008

Day 140 - May 19, 2008
You can't really see me in this picture, but I still think that it is really cool. Janelle and I walked across the Brooklyn Bridge after work last night, then we ended up at Grimaldi's for great pizza. When we were done we took a quick walk on the promonade, even though it was a little chilly. So this is me and Manhattan, from Brooklyn!

May 18, 2008

Day 139 - May 18, 2008

Well unfortunately, we had a little too much fun on Saturday, which made us a little slower moving on Sunday. This picture is from a street fair that was happening on 6th Avenue. I think street fairs rock and they make me really excited for the summer. It is a cool feeling to be walking down the middle of the street next to all of the skyscrapers as well.

May 17, 2008

Day 138 - May 17, 2008
We went on a movie and tv tour today. It was really a great chance for Janelle to get to see a whole bunch of the city. I found it incredibly interesting as well, because I am really into movies and loving learning about where they were filmed and seeing where things are filmed around town.
This picture is the building that the used as the place where they lived in Friends. It is only about a five story building even though it looks much bigger than that on tv. And the restaurant underneath it is waht they used to base Central Perk off of.

May 16, 2008

Day 137 - May 16, 2008

My friend, Janelle has come to New York to visit, and so of course we have to take the Time Square photo. We got really lucky to have such a nice, clear blue day!

May 15, 2008

Day 136 - May 15, 2008
Today was free iced coffee day at Dunkin Donuts. I love iced coffee and it is actually sorta pricey at Dunkin Donuts, so it was nice to get a free one. I do have to say that I am not opposed to watered down drinks very much though. I would prefer to have something frozen or blended, so that you don't feel like you are throwing half of it away, when you have to throw out the ice.

May 14, 2008

Day 135 - May 14, 2008

Edwards supported Obama today, which is really awesome. I met John Edwards (although we all define met differently, it isn't like he would know me) in New Orleans and I think he is pretty amazing. So I found it really exciting and great that he is supporting Obama! Maybe we will have a democratic nominee before November, who knows?

May 13, 2008

Day 134 - May 13, 2008

My mom gave us all these picture frames for Christmas. I didn't actually get mine until Easter, because she didn't want it to break in the mail. Then when I did finally get it put together, I realized that I don't actually own a hammer and so I was completely unable to actually put it up. So I had to borrow a hammer and nails from my friend, Katie. Anyway, long story short, I now have another beautiful picture frame in my house. Clearly, from my blog you can tell that I love pictures. I spent the weekend scrap booking as well, so I have been spending a little time in picture memory lane in the last couple of days.

May 12, 2008

Day 133 - May 12, 2008
To be honest, I can't remember the last time I spent mother's day with my mom. It was probably my Senior Year of High School which was six years ago. I always had finals in college, I spent a year in Spain and now that I'm in New York the second weekend in May isn't really a time that I can go home. However, this year, my mom spent mother's day in London, so I'm going to say that it is her fault that we didn't get to spend the day together! Anyway, this is a picture of my mom and Parliament, that she sent to me a couple of months ago. I thought it was appropriate as I think about her on this day after mother's day. Besides, her birthday is in May, so clearly this is her month!

May 11, 2008

Day 132 - May 11, 2008
Typically, I am not the biggest fan of breakfast food, but on Sunday mornings there is nothing that I crave more than brunch after church. My friend, Katie and I go to brunch all of the time, but this weekend she had to meet some friends at 1:30 for a movie, so she couldn't go. I was just going to go home, but then I walked past the Donuts Luncheonette and I decided to go in. It was like being in the set of a Brooklyn themed movie. I sat at the counter and ate eggs and hash browns as the guy next to me talked to the waiter in Italian. It was amazing!

May 10, 2008

Day 131 - May 10, 2008

Rohin is an amazing creative writer who has been going to Grad School at Sarah Lawrence for the last two years. He had a reading in Williamsburg this weekend, so I went out to support him. He said that obviously I'm the type of friend who would be a cheerleader regardless, but in all honesty I think that he is incredible and it was amazing to hear him read his stories. When he does get published I'm going to buy his book and also the audio recording of it, because he has a great voice for it. I love books on tape almost as much as I love reading them in the first place.

May 9, 2008

Day 130 - May 9, 2008

I have been sharing my office with Matt and Chester who are the contractors working on the Grammar School where I work. Today is Matt's last day. He got a new job working for Bovis which is the biggest construction company in the city. Chester took us out to lunch today in order to say bye to Matt, so I thought that I would take a picture of them. We went to this Italian place which was delicious!

May 8, 2008

Day 129 - May 8, 2008

Typically artsy photographs are of nature or babies. This is not of either of those things. However at the right angle even a stack of menus can appear a little more beautiful than they actually are.

May 7, 2008

Day 128 - May 7, 2008

I want to send a package, so I was double checking about where the post office is, which got me thinking about the post office. It is actually a really interesting thing, with a great history. Unfortunately with e-mail and paperless bills etc. it appears that it will never return to its former glory. Better for the environment, but still it is kinda sad. It is really exciting though to learn about how it helped form this country. Did you know that the Post Master General used to be in the succession line to the Presidency? Getting a package is also really exciting! This is a picture that was on Wikipedia of a postal box that looks like R2D2.

Day 127 - May 6, 2008
Yesterday, I decided that it was really important to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, and Kumi being the Mexican enthusiast that she is wholeheartedly agreed. So we had a few margaritas, but decided that it was too nice of a day, for that to be it. Instead we decided to walk across the park and check out the Cinco de Mayo festivities on the West Side of town as well. On the way, I thought I'd take a picture of the skyline from uptown, because it is not a view that I usually have. I love that there is randomly an outfielder from a baseball game that was going on in the corner of this picture. Good times.

May 5, 2008

Day 126 - May 5, 2008

This is an amazing picture that my aunt and uncle who live in NW Iowa took. I think that nature shots are always the best ones, and so since they shared theirs with me I thought I would put it in my blog. Thanks Jeff & Heather! Happy Cinco De Mayo!

May 4, 2008

Day 125 - May 4, 2008

I'm not going to lie, there are times when I miss teaching a little bit, but Sunday nights are not one of those times. I went to my last Tribeca Film Festival Movie with Katie yesterday, and then we went to dinner. Afterwards, I went to her place to help her grade a couple of things, etc. I took this picture, because I thought it was interesting that this was how much work she had thoughtfully graded and commented upon this weekend. Still she was feeling extreme guilt that she hadn't done nearly enough work over the weekend. I may never work as a teacher again, but after last year I will certainly never lose my respect for them.

May 3, 2008

Day 124 - May 3, 2008

Yesterday, Kumi ran 21 miles and in honor of that momentous occasion, which I must concede will probably never happen in my own life, we went out to celebrate. There is a bar called Gingerman in Midtown East that has about 70 beers on tap and another 200 or more in bottles, so obviously for a beer connoisseur like myself it is a incredible place. Anyway, we always have to try different things which we have never heard of before and this beer was really strong and served in a goblet, which we all found amusing for some reason. I really like beer and it is nice to have friends who wholeheartedly agree.

May 2, 2008

Day 123 - May 2, 2008

This is a picture of two people voting in Pennsylvania and even though it doesn't represent my day at all, I still really adore this picture and what it says about democracy. I especially love the background and that the booths are constructed of sheets and tape. Ha ha.

May 1, 2008

Day 122 - May 1, 2008
Edlyne is always amazing at picking unique things to do, so yesterday, she choose karaoke to be our after dinner activity. So we went to Koreatown and went in a private room to sing karaoke, which is not something that I had done in the past. Anyway, it was a really great time, and this particular number was amazing. Apparently in Katie's choreography, if you crouch down to the ground it is possible "to think we're alone now." Edlyne is a very quick learner as well!

April 30, 2008

Day 121 - April 30, 2008

It was Edlyne's birthday yesterday, so I met up with her, her boyfriend John, Angela and Katie at this place which is known for their chicken. I have got to say, I do enjoy chicken and this was pretty delicious.
