2010 - Day 90

This picture is super bizarre. There was a poster in the subway for Date Movie in which someone had taken off Steve Carell's face and put it on Tina Fey. This is Katie displaying it on her iphone. I thought it was hilarious.

2010 - Day 89

Wow! I've got to stop making pastries, but I couldn't resist this recipe. It is for a chocolate cake with raspberry frosting and I hope that it tastes as good as it looks. Which is pretty incredible. This was a left over recipe from the Oscars party which I didn't end up making. I decided to make it for the Lenten Supper. Although, I think chocolate cake is completely wrong for lent, oh well!

2010 - Day 88

Nothing like Monday dinner to test out the new wine glass. Nice! We didn't get anywhere near finishing this glass. I made baked spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner and it was really good. I loved this picture, how menacing the whole bottle of wine glass looks in front of our regular one!

2010 - Day 87

For brunch on Sundays, we end up at Korzo more often than not. However, last week they changed the menu, which was rather exciting. They added a fish and chips with three dipping sauces. I don't know which is a bigger weakness chipotle mayo or fish and chips. Regardless, I ended up having a great brunch with Tammy, Eric, Karen and Karen's parents.

2010 - Day 86

I wish that I could proclaim that I did something awesome today. That wouldn't be even remotely true however. I slept in, ran errands and than watched everything on my DVR. Oh well. Sometimes you just need to have a day off. Here is a picture of my to do list, which still hasn't been completely accomplished.

March 26, 2010

2010 - Day 85

Akeli, Rebecca and I ended up having a bit of an impromptu game day. We started out with some Wii bowling and tennis. (I really need to practice my tennis!) Then I busted out the Twister board, and was way better than Akeli, quite frankly. We then took the show on the road and ended up playing Jenga and Sorry at Zombie Bar.

March 25, 2010

2010 - Day 84

This picture is sorta stupid frankly, but I bet you will never guess where it was taken. That's right, this is McDonalds. I actually only went in there because I had to use the restroom, but I couldn't get over how different it was. Who knew that spending time in a fast food restaurant could actually be comfortable.

March 24, 2010

2010 - Day 83

Tonight after work, Clare took me out for a brat and a beer. There is a really cute German restaurant right next to her house and it was a lot of fun. We had an excellent German draft beer, a brat with cabbage and German fries which were rather delicious fried potatoes with onions. Yum!

March 23, 2010

2010 - Day 82

Sometimes you just need a good chick flick, you know a quasi real story that makes you cry. Well anyway, I didn't want to wait for it to come on netflix or spend $5 to get it on my cablebox. So I walked to Duane Reade to use one of the new Blockbuster Express Boxes. Basically the same as the Redbox I was introduced to in Kansas City. Anyway, Love Happens was a pretty enjoyable chick flick if you are looking for one.

March 22, 2010

2010 - Day 81

I ate an artichoke, thank you Monday dinner! It was a little tricky, and felt like eating crab to be completely honest, a lot of work but yummy. We also had some great fish, rice and bread. It was also an incredibly enjoyable 24 this week, getting better every week.

March 21, 2010

2010 - Day 80

Apparently, St. Patrick's Day never has to end. Today we ran into the tail end of the St. Patrick's Day parade in Brooklyn, it was pretty awesome. This weekend was gorgeous. I can't wait for it to actually be nice weather for more than a few days in a row!

March 20, 2010

2010 - Day 79

Rebecca took me to a great wine bar in Park Slope for dinner last night. We had some French wine, Dutch cheese and Spanish tapas. It was a fun night and I really enjoy this picture.

March 19, 2010

2010 - Day 78

Here is a sampling of some things which I got for my birthday. Amanda bought me an incredible wine glass that holds a whole bottle of wine! It was something that we saw on an episode of How I Meet Your Mother, when Robin poured all her wine into one glass and I thought aloud, I have to have one of those. Well now I do!

March 18, 2010

2010 - Day 77

When your birthday is on St. Patrick's Day, and you decide to go out two blocks from where the St. Patrick's Day firefighters parade ends, you can only imagine what goes on. We ended up with quite a few pictures to choose from, but I'm kinda in love with this one. And yes celebrating did continue until after midnight.

March 17, 2010

2010 - Day 76

I told Jim about my blog and he thought that for my birthday he should take a picture of Clare and I. So here we are in my office on my birthday. Clare brought some Baileys and Kathryn brought some Irish Soda bread to celebrate my birthday at lunch. Then we got some delicious corn beef from the firefighters. What more could you need?

March 16, 2010

2010 - Day 75

I had a bad day. Akeli thought the cure for a bad day would be to come to Brooklyn. She was obviously right!

March 15, 2010

2010 - Day 74

My mom is really awesome, I just have to let the record be clear on that one. This year for my birthday she sent me a package with a cute new dress and some jewelry. She also included this awesome taste of home recipe book with all St. Patrick's Day recipes. We had the pork sandwich with cabbage and the spring pea guacamole for Monday dinner. I'm a fan.

March 14, 2010

2010 - Day 73
Amanda and Jay made a deep dish pizza from scratch all afternoon. They had to wait for the dough to rise and everything. When it was finally cooked, Amanda said, "Emily you have to come and take a picture of this, it is beautiful!" I have to agree and it tasted wondeful as well.

March 13, 2010

2010 - Day 72
It was an awful day, where it just poured down rain the majority of the day. I spent the morning getting coffee with Rebecca and TR and then doing my taxes and a French lesson. However, after sitting inside all day, I did have to get out eventually, so Jen and I went and tried some new bars. This is the place that we are going to go for my birthday and I thought that the leprechaun in the corner made it rather appropriate.

March 12, 2010

2010 - Day 71

I hadn't seen Rebecca in ages, but last night she came over and I cooked us dinner. Then her friend, TR, came over and joined us as well. It was a nice relaxing Friday night.

March 11, 2010

2010 - Day 70

I love this picture. It was fun seeing them tear apart this building right across from the subway on my way to work this morning. I don't know why I found this so interesting, but I did!

March 10, 2010

2010 - Day 69

All around the city they are constantly doing construction. I find these fire doors to be a little ridiculous. So here you go the picture of the day.

March 9, 2010

2010 - Day 68

Hooray! The first nice day to eat in the park. Here is the view from one of my favorite benches backed up against the park. Spring is in the air.

March 8, 2010

2010 - Day 67

And the Oscar goes to:
  • Andrew, best knowledge of directors (claims to know because he reads too many articles and listens to NPR)
  • Ben, who brought about 20 mini bottles of whiskey. Great work following directions.
  • Jen, who helped save the strudel and couldn't pick a winner to save her life.
  • Akeli, for choosing the white asparagus nice choice. Also I wish An Education had won something as well.
  • Karen, best mac and cheese mini bites ever.
  • Amanda and Jay, best ballot selectors, tied at 15 correct answers.

The Hurt Locker won all the real awards, I have mixed feelings about this, but I was happy for them.

March 7, 2010

2010 - Day 66

Here is the end result of all the cooking that I did for the Oscars. Pictured here are the main course and desert options. Savor this apple strudle picture, because it is not happening again.

March 6, 2010

2010 - Day 65

So in theory a dish representing all 10 best picture nominees seemed like a ideal choice for the Oscars party that I'm having tomorrow. In practice: strudel is really hard to make, and it doesn't look pretty, I think it will taste good though. Tabbouleh gets much easier the second time you make it, and thankfully Up in the Air and Up are super easy. Now all I have left to do is clean up the disaster I've left in my wake.

March 5, 2010

2010 - Day 64

We had a "Ladies' Night Out" dinner for Church tonight. It was a wonderful chance to have a conversation with people whom I have seen for years and haven't had a huge chance to get to know. I had a mushroom rissoto for dinner.

March 4, 2010

2010 - Day 63

I decided that I needed a new hobby that was a little more useful that acquiring a new high score in tetris. Inspired a little by the Olympics where French is the official language, I thought that I'd give it a chance. So I'm trying RosettaStone. So far, I'm really enjoying it. Even if I can still only say L'homme mange.

March 3, 2010

2010 - Day 62

Another month, another book club. This month we read The Help which was a fantastic book in my opinion. After we finished we went to Blue Moon Cafe for a margarita and this is Lisa giving away her copy of the book to a new friend.

March 2, 2010

2010 - Day 61

March and I were meant to go together. I am SO glad that February has ended, although I am missing the Olympics. I love that March ads are green with shamrocks and for beer. I am much more aligned with that marketing campaign than February's hearts and sweat tarts.

March 1, 2010

2010 - Day 60
Surprise, this is not a picture from Monday dinner,

but we had sloppy joes and broccoli with gouda cheese if you were curious. This picture instead is of the new app that Jay recommended last Monday and that I have gotten really into. You put it next to your pillow and based on your movement it tracks your sleep cycle for the night. It is pretty fascinating to see how different my sleep cycle is every day. Obviously it took me awhile to get to sleep, yikes.
