2010 - Day 239

Here is a food shot for those of you who comment on how often I take pictures of food. You have to admit this is gorgeous though. Karen and I tried a new brunch spot today. Their menu was all brunch versions of classic tapas. This was eggs florentine. We tried three other things that were equally delicious. We'll have to go back here.

2010 - Day 238

I decided to have an early day of activities today. So I met Jean for brunch at Penelope and then we went shopping in Midtown. It was a nice day in a neighborhood that neither of us has spent much time in for awhile.

2010 - Day 237

I had plans to do something tonight. When I asked what we were doing I was told, "It is nice out, something outside?" Another reason I adore Manhattan. Not a problem we went to see Rosemary's Baby at the Tony Dapolito Recreation Center.

2010 - Day 236

Karen is one of the best friends someone could have, because she is typically up for anything whenever. This week we were short for kickball so I told her at 5 PM that she should come. She showed up at 7:30 dressed in green, looks like it was worth it huh? Here she is doing a victory dance with Mahelet and Steven.

2010 - Day 235

This sign in my apartment building this morning was pretty entertaining. They are upset because they moved the bus stop about a quarter of a block down the street. They make some compelling arguments as to why this was dumb. However, they start with every time the bus comes it beeps three times. I thought that opening the argument that way was very entertaining. If you want to complain to the MTA, be my guest. They already repainted the street though, so I don't think it is going to work out.

2010 - Day 234
This is a picture from Chelsea, so I'll let her write today's post. "Just in case you thought you were having a crummy day just be glad that you didn't spend the entire day at school only to come home to stare all night at this, and yes, he is real."

2010 - Day 233
Damn you, UK VHS tape, my nemesis. The story goes that Amanda and Jay went to the UK for vacation in July. While in the apartment where they were staying, they found Simon Schama A History of Britain. A collection of 6 VHS tapes. Well, they finished thousands of years of British History and ended in the middle of the 5th tape. Turns out you can't watch this tape on an American VCR, the two remaining in the world. So I asked Chester if he had anything and he thought he did. However, it turns out he only had a VCR that played American tapes in Poland. That isn't going to d0 anyone any good. Foiled again it seems.

2010 - Day 232

Few things in life are as glorious as a New York City brunch. Especially, when you get to go to a tried and tested place and it is everything you wanted it to be. Rebecca, Karen and I had just such an experience today at Char #4. It was a bit of a sendoff as Rebecca is headed to Texas for the next month or so for work. It was wonderful to get a little Rebecca time in this weekend.

2010 - Day 231

After a pretty busy week, I needed a relaxing Saturday. I had to work a wedding at 3:30 PM, but I spent the rest of the day relaxing. Not too much to photograph. So I am going to put up what Nicki and Dad did yesterday which was apparently, drinking beer on the terrace.

2010 - Day 230

Akeli and I met at Bruschetteria for our new Friday tradition, I LOVE that place. Then we went over to watch Andrew guest star in a band Baby Erection. It was a good time and a lot of fun to see them perform.

August 19, 2010

2010 - Day 229

Here is a picture of Liquor is Kicker my Thursday kickball team. We only lost one game so far this season, so I'm looking forward to a chance at the playoffs.

August 18, 2010

2010 - Day 228

The summer is winding down and the days are starting to get a little bit shorter. Here is the sunset at a little after 8 PM. It was a beautiful sunset on Houston Street.

August 17, 2010

2010 - Day 227

Akeli and I met our friend Noah for happy hour, in what ended up being a little too big a night for a Tuesday. Oh well it won't be summer much longer. We started off at a bar in meat packing that Akeli loves. Then she suggested McSworley's although it turned out she had never been there before. Finally we ended up at a wine bar in the East Village that was a great choice. Along the way we passed Washington Square Park. I told Akeli to pose, but the first picture was obstructed by a cab. The second looked awful cause the flash didn't go off right. This is the third, you can't even see that Akeli is in it, but if you could I believe you would see she is annoyed!

2010 - Day 226

Amanda and I decided that we were going to have Monday Dinner on a budget, since we have lost the ability to budget ourselves in any other aspect of our lives.

As you can see she made her $20 stretch really far. We had clam sauce over linguine. Our veggie was green beans and fresh cherry tomatoes and then of course we had some bread. There were even orange juice popsicles for dessert. The over budget purchase that she made was a new mini pitcher for the apple water she made. Overall it was absolutely delicious. I can see why Jay and Amanda have made clam sauce and pasta several times this week. Although the first time Jay caught the clams himself.

August 15, 2010

2010 - Day 225

I get harassed a lot for not being a huge animal lover. So here is proof that they are okay. Akeli's new roommate came with two cats and they are really friendly. Not the horrible kind that hisses at you. So I got my fill of pet time and then Akeli kicked my ass at Wii tennis. I'm going to get serious and practice though, so she better watch out.

August 14, 2010

2010 - Day 224
When you live in a lovely apartment like mine, that gets rented over and over again. It is not uncommon for every surface to be covered in cheap paint. Well my window sill is no exception and all winter the radiator let off steam that made the paint peal. I couldn't take it any longer, and I scrapped off the paint today. I don't know what I'm going to do with my window sill now, but I figure I have a few months to decide before the heat is back on.

August 13, 2010

2010 - Day 223
On the way out of work this afternoon there was a lot of commotion going on a block north. It turned out to be an accident between a taxi and a car. The taxi had come up onto the sidewalk and rammed into the stairs of the Church right next door to where I work. It was quite a sight to see and fortunately no one was standing there when it happened. Yikes.

August 12, 2010

2010 - Day 222
I took a break from the desert of the month calendar for July. Mainly because the desert was rolls of store bought cookies made into ice cream sandwiches. That wasn't going to travel to work very well. Nor was it challenging at all, so I took the month off. August was chocolate cookies, so not much more challenging, but delicious so I made them anyway.

August 11, 2010

2010 - Day 221

I have become embarrassingly addicted to online tetris. Especially since they came up with the arcade version where you play against other people. Tetrisfriends.com is pretty amazing, but watch out!

August 10, 2010

2010 - Day 220

I stood in line for lunch today. I just couldn't resist because Shake Shack is so delicious! I even ended up getting a free coffee shake that they made on accident, so that was awesome. Now I am super full with 2 1/2 hours of work left. But worse things could happen.

August 9, 2010

2010 - Day 219

My face gets super red when I run. I swear my face looks like a tomato, even after walking home from the gym. This picture doesn't really show how bad it is, for the record.

August 8, 2010

2010 - Day 218

I got invited to a barbecue in Brooklyn, because as Jen said, "Oh Emily will come, she loves Brooklyn." I'm glad that I do love Brooklyn, because this barbecue was incredible. There was skirt steak, shrimp and fish made on the grill and then we made some amazing tacos. It was really a delicious meal and a lot of fun to meet some great people. Sunday afternoons doing nothing is really what makes the summer amazing.

August 7, 2010

2010 - Day 217

Jen's best friend from High School was in town this weekend and I was asked to help choose the place for dinner. So we ended up at a sushi place on the Upper Eastside. After dinner we decided to be "tame," so Sam and I just split a boot of beer.

August 6, 2010

2010 - Day 216

Akeli and I have found our new favorite place to go. This amazing spread only cost $11 and it was just as amazing as it looks. The bruschetta in the back is ricotta with truffle oil. How brilliant is that? After a LONG Friday at work a little adventure with Akeli was just what I needed.

August 5, 2010

2010 - Day 215

I have major weakness for chalk signs. I will always choose to go to a place with a creative chalk sign over other places. I thought that the questions on this one were particularly interesting. Awesome.

August 4, 2010

2010 - Day 214

In an attempt to take a Wednesday picture that didn't have anything to do with kickball, I waited all day to find something. It never happened. So instead, here is a picture of the road construction going on all over 1st and 2nd Avenue. Which has made it impossible to get home after 7 PM. It hasn't stopped me from going out every night this week anyway.

August 3, 2010

2010 - Day 213

Akeli talked me into thinking that I would be good at Gawker TV's trivia. She was wrong. However, with categories like Viral Video and the Disney Channel, it just wasn't my expertise. Do you know which animal is in the first YouTube video? or Which actress plays Miley Cyrus's mom on Hannah Montana? Jen, Sara, Akeli and I did have a lot of fun with the theme song round however. Embarrasingly we did mix up Who's the Boss? and Growing Pains though, Angela would be so disappointed. In the end we did not get last place and we went for Pomme Frites so overall it was a success.

August 2, 2010

2010 - Day 212

Okay you can't see this, but this thermometer said that it was 191 degrees Fahrenheit and 86 degrees Celsius. Now this is clearly just broken, but still it is miserably warm around here.

August 1, 2010

2010 - Day 211

Jen, Sara and I went to brunch today at Arte Cafe. Then we walked through a flee market in search of a gift for my sister Chelsea's birthday. I think I found something perfect!

July 31, 2010

2010 - Day 210

Kumi abandoned New York for Boston and it seems to have been a wonderful decision for her. However, you can never really quit our book club group! So when she came to town to visit this weekend we grabbed brunch with Colin, Lisa and Carrie. We had an amazing time.

July 30, 2010

2010 - Day 209

I was helping Anthony with a Facebook Page that he is trying to make. By helping I mean watching and giving poor advice. However, I was able to actually assist when he needed to take some pictures to put up. This was my favorite, because it is right about the exit to the Church and it wasn't something I had ever noticed before. Anyway, Happy Friday!
