Day 181 - June 29, 2008

There are a few waterfalls that have been put up around New York as part of a Danish exhibit. Environmentally speaking, I think that it is sorta a waste, but I have to admit that it still looks pretty cool. This was the view from the Eastside Highway in a cab.

Day 180 - June 28, 2008

Last summer we made a list of things to do and very few of them actually were accomplished. In fact, I think I have done more of the oddball things I wanted to do in the last two weeks than I did all of last summer. One of these things being going to the Brooklyn Brewery in Williamsburg. It is a huge warehouse and they have tables and things set up for you to drink beer at. It basically looks like someone's garage and the atmosphere is pretty much like that as well. We wanted to make a huge tower, but as we started the bouncer told us that we couldn't do it, because it got people too worked up. However, we were still there around 6 PM when they were closing, so we built our pyramid then.

Day 179 - June 27, 2008

Natalie is a friend from High School who I haven't seen for years. However, Jen caught up with her at a wedding and found out that she was living in New York. So we all meet up for a drink after work on Friday. It was a lot of fun, except the bar actually lost power, so I felt pretty bad for the waitress, because then she had to do running tabs for everyone and the air conditioning was no longer working.

Day 178 - June 26, 2008

Chelsea's big summer project was to redecorate her room. She decided to paint, stencil and rearrange the whole thing. Here is a picture of how it turned out.

Day 177 - June 25, 2008

Today at work, I was trusted to drive a car around the Upper Eastside. One of the Church's cars needed a new windshield, so it was in the shop. The car needed to be picked up at 83rd and 2nd and taken to 84th and 3rd. So I volunteered to do this. Fortunately, as I was beginning to back the car up to park behind the building, I got a call that I just needed to bring it back to Church. Obviously, you can tell I am not a New York driver based on the fact that I took a picture while doing it, but I thought this was SO funny. That poor truck was trying to pull into the empty space to make a delivery. Just as it begun backing up a taxi pulled right into the space, dropped one passenger off and picked up another. All of this while they are completely blocking 87th Street! Good thing I took the picture when I did, right after this the guy in the truck got out and started screaming at the taxi driver. I think I'll stick to the subway. Not that people don't get yelled at there, but when you get bumped into it isn't as serious!

June 24, 2008

Day 176 - June 24, 2008

He he. Obviously, my pictures have taken a bit of a dive here, clearly shown here because I didn't take any good pictures at Katie's birthday. Oh well I'm going to Europe in one week, so I will have tons of new and wonderful material. Yea! I really can't wait at all for my vacation.

June 23, 2008

Day 175 - June 23, 2008

Tonight I went to a Bryant Park movie night, and I have to say it was sublime. It is certainly a New York thing that I had been meaning to do for quite some time, so I was really glad that I actually made a plan to do it. I packed a dinner and Kumi meet me for the movie. It was Bride of Frankenstein and it was pretty good. Next week is Hud, so I think I might try it out again. It was a nice and relaxing ending to a day that certainly could have gone better.

June 22, 2008

Day 174 - June 22, 2008

Today was a fun day. I got to catch up with quite a few people on the phone, did a little cleaning, ran some errands and it was capped off by finishing the third season of weeds. I am obsessed with box sets of any show, but Weeds is a lot of fun, because all of the characters are just really funny. Rohin and I have been watching it all week and we finished it off tonight. If you need a little comic relief in your life I would certainly recommend it.

June 21, 2008

Day 173 - June 21, 2008

I went for Katie's birthday at the Royale. It was a good time with snacks, drinks and dancing. This is a goofy picture because someone else was actually taking a picture of them for the other side at this same time. I kinda like it though. This is Katie, Caroline and Reid.

June 20, 2008

Day 172 - June 20, 2008

I went to a book signing last night and meet Jane Green. I absolutely adore her books. I don't know why I love them as much as I do, but I have read every single one and passed most of them along for everyone else to read as well. Her book for this summer is called The Beach House. She spoke so openly about her life and her family which I found to be incredibly amazing. The most interesting thing that she said, when asked about Chick Lit, was that she thought the distinction of the genre is that the writing is incredibly real and honest. I think that is why I love her books so much, because they are fun, but also contain characters that you root for. Living in the middle of the country, I didn't feel like I had very many opportunities to meet authors. I think that writing a book is an incredible thing to do and it was great to meet the woman behind the words. I have really gotten into her new book as well and am loving it so far.

June 19, 2008

Day 171 - June 19, 2008
I have been so sad about all the flooding in Iowa. I was really convinced that this whole global warming thing was going to effect the middle of the country last, but apparently this is not the case. My Grandma says that it has been really bad and I am certainly praying for everyone whose lives will be drastically affected by this.

June 18, 2008

Day 170 - June 18, 2008
So I don't really know these people, but they were here today to visit Sona. It is her step daughter and granddaughter and their friends. Sona thinks that my camera works a lot better than hers so she told this picture to make sure. I certainly like my camera, and digital pictures in general are still fairly impressive to me. So here you go.

June 17, 2008

Day 169 - June 17, 2008
So I have been meaning to put a picture of Tim Russett up all week. I don't watch Meet the Press, but I watch the Today show every morning and Tim had been on a few times a week talking about the election, so it will be weird that he is no longer going to be around. The whole heart failure thing is really scary too, because it seems to come on so suddenly.

June 16, 2008

Day 168 - June 16, 2008
Oh brother! Chester who I work with was telling me about his friend, who made $13 million dollars selling his brand of vodka to the people who own Patron. So I told him, hey I like cherry vodka, I would like to try that. Little did I know that would mean that I was going to get a 1.5 liter bottle that weighs about 10 pounds. Rohin and I did enjoy some cherry vodka and orange juice while watching the third season of weeds last night though.

June 15, 2008

Day 167 - June 15, 2008

This was a really cute family band that was playing as part of the street fair. The boy was singing Rubber Ducky with his little banjo and it was really adorable.

June 14, 2008

Day 166 - June 14, 2008

This weekend was the 7th Avenue Street Fair. I love street fairs, but it is true that they are all almost identical, so it is always exciting to be on the lookout for the differences. This person had made a bunch of old advertisements into signs and they were really neat.

June 13, 2008

Day 165 - June 13, 2008

There is going to be a new IKEA in Brooklyn
which they are certainly advertising a ton. So this was one of the ways they did it. On Friday, they put up a huge cardboard box room with IKEA furniture in it at the corner in front of the Library.

June 12, 2008

Day 164 - June 12, 2008
I went out to dinner with Angela tonight. We had really amazing Thai food and then we went back to my apartment, because I desperately needed to do laundry. Anyway, I showed her some pictures I had from last year and she gave me this one that I had completely forgotten about. We went to Frost Valley in September 2006, it was one of the first things I did with the kids and this is a picture of the group that I was with.

June 11, 2008

Day 163 - June 11, 2008
This is a picture that I took for work. One of the jobs this summer as part of the Church Restoration project is cleaning all of the altars in the church. This alter is half done, so I took a picture to demonstrate the differences between a clean altar and a dirty one.

June 10, 2008

Day 162 - June 10, 2008

Jean borrowed my camera to take pictures of Grace's party last night, so I have about 60 pictures from that now, which is sorta fun to have pictures of the people I work with. Anyway this was my favorite one. This is Grace and Father Witt. They are both really great and they make every day go just a little bit easier. It always makes things better when people you work with are easy to get along with. I remember that my mom always told me to be nice and easy to get along with when I would go to sleepovers and stuff as a kid, and that was a very valuable lesson to learn.

June 9, 2008

Day 161 - June 9, 2008

The principal of the school and church that I have been working at is going to be going to a different school in the fall. So tonight we had a going away party for her. This is a picture of Grace as well as my boss, Sona and myself at the party.

June 8, 2008

Day 160 - June 8, 2008

It is 93 degrees currently! I'm not going to lie, I don't exactly enjoy cold weather, but I prefer 100 to 1 to be cold over being hot. There is something about being hot and sweaty that just doesn't mesh well with me at all. The humidity wipes me out and seriously makes me feel sick. So on a more positive note, my air conditioning is literally my best friend this weekend. My parents bought it for me as a house warming gift for my old apartment which was quite a bit bigger than this one, so when it is on it really cools the place down and is incredible. I did go to church and brunch this morning and both were wonderful. At church the parents of the kids who are graduating High School got to give a little message to their kids which was wonderful. Then, I had brunch with Darryl and his brother who was visiting with his finance and their friends. It was really nice to meet them, but man it was hot!

June 7, 2008

Day 159 - June 7, 2008

I passed this and thought that it was so cool. You always see fire hygrants which people have loosened to play in, in the movies, but it was cool to see one in real life. I mean I'm sure that it is huge waste of water, but it was still really cool and I loved seeing it. It is so hot, I am really melting and every little things helps!

June 6, 2008

Day 158 - June 6, 2008

I haven't done a book recommendation for a while so here is one. This book is called True Enough and it is by Farhad Manjoo. I have been trying to read a little more nonfiction and I find political nonfiction to be the best that there is. This book is basically a bunch of case studies about how perceptions and opinions we have shape the way that we see the world. I thought that the book was incredible and it really made me think about why I believe the things that I believe. Especially with the upcoming election coverage, it is very clear that his point about society becoming more fragmented than ever before is quite true. I think that my thinking after reading this book will certainly be much more concentrated on the source from which the news I'm ingesting is coming from and I will also try to be even more accepting of all opinions even if they differ from my own. My favorite quote is from the very end of the book. "Choosing means trusting some people and distrusting the rest. Choose wisely."

June 5, 2008

Day 157 - June 5, 2008

Today was my sister's boyfriend, Jeremy's birthday. He was in New York to see the Yankees before they stop playing in Yankee Stadium. So she had an idea that I should go and surprise him with something for his birthday. I decided that Crumbs cupcakes would be the perfect thing, so I picked up some and took them to Queens after work. The only mishap was I thought the hotel was on the other side of the highway. I thought this picture was kinda funny, but I made it back across and left the surprise.

June 4, 2008

Day 156 - June 4, 2008

As far as people having a more interesting week than me go, I think that Obama certainly qualifies. It looks like he is actually going to get the chance to run for president. I am so excited. I think that he is such an amazing person who actually knows a ton about the world and would make a great leader. I just read that McCain wants to do 10 debates, so this is certainly not anywhere near over. It is really exciting though.

June 3, 2008

Day 155 - June 3, 2008

Since I'm taking a look at other people's lives this week. I thought this was amazing. Ashley lived across the hall from me Freshman year and apparently she got married this weekend! I love this picture. I mean how classic "girl from Wisconsin!" Amazing.

June 2, 2008

Day 154 - June 2, 2008

Sticking with my weekly theme of other people's lives being more interesting than mine, here you go. Kristin, a girl who went to Madison and got in TFA the same time as me, is living in California working in the Bay Area schools. She put this picture up on facebook of the annual 12K that happens in San Francisco the third weekend in May. I thought that it was pretty humorous, and also made me think I should be a little more willing to take pictures of things I find interesting. But then again, I don't think these guys are too shy!

June 1, 2008

Day 153 - June 1, 2008
So I've decided that this week, my life isn't nearly as interesting as my friends. Okay this isn't a new revelation, but this week is incredibly dull so far, so I am going to show pictures of other people. This is my cousin Amber skydiving! She claims that it is incredible and everyone should do it. It does look pretty fun!

Day 152 - May 31, 2008
I wanted to go and see this movie on Saturday, but it was sold out everywhere. Oh well, Edlyne and I went to see Iron Man instead. But what I really wanted a picture of was all of the women who got so outrageously dressed up to go to this movie, it was really interesting. I mean come on you are going to a movie, and quite frankly the only people there to impress were other women, so what is the point. Anyway, I felt rude taking a picture of women waiting in line, so I am putting the movie poster up instead. I'm gonna have to go see this movie next weekend instead.
